The short version

1. Who we are

Leyener (“Leyener”, “we”, “us”) is a free language-learning website at leyener.com, operated by Ben Baruch. Questions about this policy go to hello@leyener.com.

2. Information we collect

We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, email address, payment details or any other information through the site. We run no analytics, advertising or tracking tools.

3. Information stored on your device

To work, Leyener saves the following in your browser's local storage on your device. It never leaves your device unless you export it yourself.

Leyener also keeps a copy of its own files on your device so it can open without an internet connection. Audio or video files you import are not saved; they play only until you close the page.

Backups. Options › Export backup saves your data to a file you control. Anyone you give that file to can read it.

Deleting your data. Clear this site's data in your browser settings, or delete individual imports in Options. Because we hold no copy, deleted data cannot be recovered unless you kept a backup.

4. Services that receive information when you use certain features

Each of these services handles information under its own privacy policy. You can turn free machine translation off in Options › Free translation.

5. Leyener inside Claude

A version of Leyener also runs inside Claude (claude.ai). There, your progress is saved to your Claude account, and features such as story writing, conversation practice, translation and word definitions are processed by Anthropic. That version is covered by Anthropic's terms and privacy policy as well as this one.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

We do not set cookies. Leyener uses your browser's local storage and offline cache only to provide the features you use, such as remembering your words and opening without internet. These are strictly necessary for the site to work and are never used for tracking or advertising.

7. Legal bases (EEA and UK visitors)

Where data protection law applies, storage on your device is strictly necessary to provide the service you request. Server logs are kept on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and available. Optional translation runs only when you use it, and you can switch it off.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or move your personal information, to object to or restrict its use, and to complain to a data protection authority. Because your learning data stays on your device, you can exercise most of these rights yourself through your browser and the backup and delete tools in Options. For anything else, including information held by our hosting provider, email hello@leyener.com.

California residents: we do not sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not use sensitive personal information.

9. Children

Leyener is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Because the site collects no personal information, a child's use does not send their data to us. Parents or guardians with questions can email hello@leyener.com.

10. International use

Leyener is operated from the United States. The third-party services listed above may process information in the United States or other countries.

11. Security

The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Data on your device is protected by your device and browser security, so keep them up to date and be careful who can use your device.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version. Significant changes will be noted on this page.
